Rare sword of the Bagobo, Philippines - 6798

Up for sale is this very nice example of a small Kampilan style sword of the Bagobo tribe from Mindanao, Philippines. The blade is 19 inches long, widening tword the tip and forged from laminated steel. The hilt is typical Bagobo, with the decorated brass collar with a small octagonal cross guard, and the upper half of grained wood with the flaring butt shaped pommel, also of octagonal cross section. The scabbard is wood, open on the down side and the blade is held by wooden pegs inserted into the scabbard’s wood (several missing). The scabbards ends with four tubular cast brass "prongs" and covered with colored threads and fabrics (what looks like a secondary use of an old silk neck tie) and colored beads. Very good condition. Rare and authentic piece from the late 19 or early 20 C.
