Very Fine Syrian Wootz Damascus Shamshir Sword - 6675


A very fine Shamshir from Syria. The blade is Persian, 18th Century, forged from top quality wootz (Damascus, watered steel), signed with gold inlay makers mark. . It is 31 inches long, curved and single edged, with a 7 inches false edge. The cross guard is steel. The ‘Syrian’ attribution comes mainly from the shape of the hilt, the down curving quillon and the fitting decoration. The grips are horn and the grip strap and pommel are filigree silver. The cross guard is secured to the grips with a twisted silver wire. Wood scabbard covered with the leather and the belt sleeve is leather with big silver rings.Very good condition. Minor darkened spots on the blade. minor damage to the scabbard cover and torn parts in the belt suspension. A very fine piece, and a jewel for every collection of Islamic weapons.
