Sword of the Naga, Assam / Burma - 6281
The Naga people of Assam (North-East India) and The Kachin people of Myanmar (Burma) uses this very efficient sword / cleaver. It has a very heavy blade, widening to maximum width at its very top. This one is a classical example. Deadly sharp blade, 18 ½ inches long, almost 3 inch wide at its tip, forged from laminated and folded steel (clearly evident at the spine area). Wood ? handle covered with red lacquer and mounted with a silver collar and ivory pommel plate. . Open wood scabbard bound with braided rattan bands and strips, including the braided rattan part of the carrying belt. Total length 32 inches (in scabbard). Very good condition. Very good condition.
