This dagger is of Afghan origin, late 19 C. in the style and shape of a European dagger. Probably a custom made to European (British?) officer serving in the area or a trade for the European market. Blade 8 1/2 inches long forged from high quality wootz steel in the rare pattern known as "Ladder" pattern. Ivory grip of good age patina, with brass mounts. Silver cross guard. Leather covered scabbard with brass mounts. Total length 16 inches. Very good condition.
