Very Fine and Large Moplah Sword from South India - 14755
The Moplah is the sword of the Coorg people from the Malabar coast of south west India and it is quite a scarce item. The massive 16 inches long and more than 4 inches wide blade is slightly down curving with a flat central rib. The spine is stamped along it entire length with the "eye lashes" mark of quality. The handle is ivory with long chiseled brass bolsters and chiseled brass collars on the blade. Total length 26 inches. Very good plus condition. Good age patina on the handle. South India, early 19C. A massive and very impressive article. |
