Very Good Moroccan Koumaya Dagger - 14734


The Moroccan version of the Arab Jambiya dagger is locally called Koumaya and characterized by a slender blade, usually dual edged at its lower half and single edge at the top. There is a big variety in the decoration styles and quality of the handles and scabbards. This one is of a good quality with a well forged 9 inches fullered blade, The hilt is of the style is known as: Chapeau de Gendarme (The hat of the policeman) after the shape of the 4 inches wide pommel. The hilt and the scabbard are of elaborately chieseled and engraved silver with a brass back. Two big side loops on the scabbard. Very good condition. A rare and very attractive piece.
