Fine Indo-Arab Jambiya Dagger with Wootz Blade - 14688


The style of this fine Jambiya Dagger is also known as Indo-Arab for the mixed styles of Jambiya daggers from the Arab peninsula with Indian khanjars. Also it may be that such daggers were made in Indian for wealthy Arabs residing in India or in the peninsula. Classical curved double edge blade with pronounced central rib forged from wootz (Damascus, watered) steel. Whole silver handle. Scabbard covered with leather (later) and mounted with finely pierced silver mounts. Blade 8 inches, total 13 1/2 inches. Late 19C. may be made in Hyderabad.
