A Lucknow Enamelled Silver Ram's Head-Hilted Shamshir - 14681


From India, first half of 19th Century with typical enameled work from Lucknow. Single-edged and deeply curved Wootz (Watered) steel signed blade. Finely enameled silver hilt incised with various animal and vegetal decoration. The pommel and the quillon terminals are in the form of rams' heads with eyes set with ruby stones. Blade 30 inches. Total 35 inches. Good condition. Very minor pitted spots on the blade. The gold inlay of the signature is lost. Losses to the enamel. No scabbard.
