Sword from Oman also known as Kattara. This type of sword, which is very similar to the older Islamic swords from the 11th 12th centuries, was popular in the Gulf countries during the 18th and the 19th Centuries. It has a very long 33 inches, straight and double edge blade with triple fullers and a spatula shaped tip. May be of European origin. Hilt is wood, bound with leather strips and embroidered with silver wires. The pommel is a heavy square steel piece used as a counter weight to the very well balanced long blade. The scabbard is wood, with the original tooled leather cover, mounted with beautifully chased silver chape and two steel rings with silver inlay decoration. Total length is 41 inches.
