'Dao' Curved Short Sword - China, Ching Dynasty - 5714

A very nice Chinese Dao short sword of the Ching Dynasty, probably late 19th century. The slightly curved blade is 19 inches long with a short 4 inches back edge and two narrow fullers. The grip is covered with white (natural color) ‘Sting Ray’ skin and bound with a spiral brass strip. The Pommel and the disk cross guard are cast and engraved brass. The scabbard is wood also covered with ‘Sting Ray’ skin and mounted with beautifully engraved brass fittings. Excellent example of a typical ‘Dao’ sword of the last Chinese Dynasty. Very good plus condition. All parts are old and original to this sword. No added or replaced parts.at attractive |
