Long Sword from West Africa. Manding (?) - 14356
Up for sale is this rare long sword, West Africa, probably Manding. Early 20 C. Well made straight fullered blade of good quality, 30 inches long. May be of European origin. Leather worked handle and scabbard in the style reminding the classical Manding sabers. Grip bound with braided leather strips and a piece of a crocodile skin in the center. Total length 40 inches. Very good condition. Blackened spots on the blade and sharpening signs. Damaged grip at the pommel base. Small losses to the leather work of the scabbard. Very impressive sword. |
