Fine and Rare Ayda Katti Sword, Coorg, India - 14285


The Ayda Katti is the national sword of the Coorg of Malabar, the South West coastal area of India. It is one of the rarest swords in the Indian arsenal and of a very peculiar shape. It reminds in a way an agricultural tool, but it is a real weapon and a deadly one in the experienced hands. This fine exemplar is of large size, 16 inches long blade 3 1/2 inches wide, signed and decorated with a line of small "eyelashes" marks along the spine. The base of the blade is inlaid with silver decoration. Ivory handle with ivory kyte shaped pommel with engraved silver inserts. Total length 21 inches. Very good condition. very minor blackened spots on the blade. Very impressive sword
