19C. Wootz (Damascus) Karud Knife / Dagger, Afghanistan - 6540


This Knife / dagger is a style of a Karud , the straight back member of the family of the Pesh-Kabz. The whole family of such daggers is common to India, Afghanistan, Persia and several Central Asian countries. The blade is a forged of Indian wootz (Damascus steel), 12 inches long, heavy, with a pronounced T spine tapering to an acute tip. The grips are bone decorated with geometrical design painted red (Typical late 19 C. Afghani design). The grip strap and bolsters are steel. The scabbard is brass , beautifully engraved with swept up tip. Very good condition. Minor dents on the scabbard.
