Piso Podang Sword with Blade of the Bikaner Armory. - 14230

The Podang, sometimes also known as Piso Podang is a sword common to Sumatra and specifically to the Batak People. The influence of the Indian Tulwar sword on its specific hilt shape is evident. This Very Good example has a single edged fullered and curved blade. It is forged from Wootz (Damascus, Watered ) steel of rather low contrast , forged in the technique known as scarf welding. The blade is signed with dotted punched figures which suggest it is a secondary use of an Indian sword from the Bikaner armory. The Solid white metal hilt is of a typical form with a reverse cup shape pommel. Wood scabbard with horn fittings and (later) leather cover.Blade 26 inches. Total 31 inches. Very good condition.
