Very Good Sword of the Salampasu, Zair. Scarce - 14219

The Salampasu, a tribe of fierce warriors residing in southern Zaire are carrying this unique sword, somewhat different from the weapons of their many neighbors. A very nice photo of a Salampaso warrior carrying such a sword can be seen on the front cover of: Beaute Fatale the catalog of an exhibition of African weapons in Brussels, Belgium, 1992. The blade of this specimen is 16 inches, massive and well forged. The grip is beautifully carved blackwood bound with braided fibers with nicely carved pommel. The scabbard is also blackwood bound with rattan bands. Total length 24 inches. Very good condition. Blackened spots on the blade. Early 20 Century authentic and rather scarce sword.
