Very Good Laz Bichaq Yataghan Sword Dated 1261 (1845) - 14093


The origin of this unusual and rare sword was in a fierce debates between collectors and researchers of blade weapons. It was attributed to the Caucasus, Kurdistan, North Africa, Turkey, Malaya as well as other origins. However, most probably it is coming from North / East Turkey and found in Caucasian areas as well. It is best known as Black Sea Yataghan or Laz Bichaq. It is characterized by the deeply re-curving blade and bifurcated pommel. This one has a 23 inches blade decorated with a typical punched dots design and dated to 126(?)1 (1845 in the Gregorian Calendar). The spione of the blade is finely chiseled. The grip is bound with leather ring. The pommel spikes are horn. Wood scabbard covered with leather. Total length 30 1/2 inches. Very good condition. Minor battle scars on the blade. Part of the scabbard leather cover is a new replacement.
