Very Fine Dagger from Sudan dated 1899 - 6468


This beautiful dagger of unusual quality comes from Sudan. The straight and acutely tapering blade is inscribed in Arabic on both sides of the blade as follows: Duriba Fee Um Durman, 1317 (Hand made in Um Durman 1899) Il Hartum (The capital of Sudan), and Anuar Rushdi (probably the owner name ?). The grip is wood known as African Black Wood, with a black core and white envelope, Which is usually mistaken for Ebony, but much stiffer. It is beautifuly decoraed with silver wire and silver rondels with a shining age patina. The scabbard is tooled leather with reptile tip and scabbard mouth, but it is age worn with small parts missing.
