Kora swords were used in Nepal and North India specifically for sacrificial processes, and it is constructed to exactly meet this purpose: Heavy, down curving blade, with its edge on the concave side and with wide heavy tip to provide the weight needed for beheading an animal with one sword stroke.
This one is of Indian origin, short and heavy, 17 inches blade with a central ridge, The tip 3 ¼ inches wide, 22 inches total length. It is mounted with a classical Indian Tulwar style handle, whole steel with silver koftgari decoration. Very good condition, dark patina with very minor and superficial pitted spots. Some of the silver decoration on the handle is worn. A very good piece. |
