19 C. Khukuri Knife / Dagger with Silver Mounts - 6427

The KHUKURI is the traditional weapon of the Gurkha people from NEPAL. It is an every day tool used for hunting, agriculture, defense and fighting, and every man in Nepal is proud to carry one for use and as a symbol of status. It derives its shape from the “KOPIS” the ancient Greek sword. This specific example is late 19th C. Regimental Kothimora of good quality. It has a heavy down curving blade of 12 inches long and well forged. The hilt is bone. The scabbard is wood covered with black leather, mounted with beautifuly chased silver locket and chape. The compartment for the two by-knives is missing. Total length 17 1/2 inches. Good condition. A re-glued crack in the grip. The gold plaque on the front side of the locket is missing and the tip of the chape is slightly dented. Very Low Price. |
