Fine Penai, Sword of the Toraja, Sulawezi - 14014


This form of sword is called Penai and used by the Toraja people from Sulawezi. It is characterized by the peculiar shape hilt and beautifully carved scabbard. The Pamor blade is 18 inches long. The hilt is carved from water Buffalo horn decorated with different colors of braided rattan (small losses), and the scabbard is carved dark hard wood bounded with two colors braided rattan bands. The scabbard tip is carved from a light colored wood. Total length 29 inches. Very good condition. Small edge nick near the blade tip.
