Very Fine Arabian Saif Sword. - 13837


This very fine piece is an Arabian saber, also known as Saif. These Saif swords usually employs trade blades imported from Persia or from Europe, or locally made blades in such styles. This sword has a Persian made Blade, forged from fine wootz (Damascus , watered) steel 31 inches long, chiseled with inscription in Arabic letters and marked with a maker mark. The cross guard is finely chased silver and so is the grip strap and the pommel cap. The grips are ivory bound with twisted silver wire. This sword come with its original scabbard covered with finely tooled leather stitched with silver wire and mounted with finely chased belt rings and chape. Total length 36 inches. Very good condition. The scabbard mouth is bound with a later leather strip to cover a loss to the original leather. The pommel silver cover is probably later. A fine scarce sword. 18 C. blade with a 19C. cover and mounts.
