The Zanzibar Sword - 13836

This sword is a matter of a long standing discussions regarding its origin. It was attributed to Morocco, East Africa, Ethiopia and other African regions. It is definitely of African origin, most probably East Africa, and made in Zanzibar. This specimen is late 19C. with a nicely fullered 19 inches blade with acute tip and the "Eyelashes" mark, supposedly a mark of quality. I shaped handle with wide pommel and cross guard., entirely covered with chased brass. Wood scabbard covered with chased brass. Total length 25 inches. Very good condition. Minor dents and losses to the brass cover.
