Very Long and Heavy Flyssa Sword, Morocco - 13440


This Flyssa is the traditional sword of the Kabyles people of Morocco. These type of swords come with blades of various sizes from 12 up to 40 inches plus. This one is late 19 to early 20 C., 39 inches, with a 34 inches blade . It is single edge widening to its maximum about 15 inches from the tip. The blade is inlaid with brass decoration. The hilt is a combination of steel and wood covered with engraved brass in a styled animal head. The scabbard is wood, finely carved in a classical local style and bound with iron bands.
