Very Rare Yatagan Sword from the Black Sea - 14685
This unusual and rare sword was a issue of debate for many collectors and researchers of edged weapon. It was attributed to the Caucasus, Kurdistan, North African, Turkey, Malaya as well as other origins. It is however most probably coming from North / East Turkey and is found in the Caucasus areas as well. It is commonly known as Black Sea Yatagan . It is characterized by the deeply re-curving blade and bifurcated pommel. This one has a heavy 24 inches blade, almost ½ inch thick at its base, forged from very good steel. The blade is inlaid with brass wires and marked with a maker sign. The pommel horn are painted wood and the grip as well as the scabbard fittings is chased and silver plated brass Total length 33 inches.
