The swords and daggers of the Baule tribe were always rare and sought after by collectors of African weapon / art. The Baule people reside in Ivory Coast and Neighboring Ghana and known to be masters of wood work and wood engraving. We offer here for sale a sword of the Baule. The blade is leaf shaped, 17 ½ inches long, 3 inches wide, well forged. The handle is carved hardwood highly polished . No scabbard. Very good condition. Shining age patina on both the blade and the handle. Minor edge nicks and pitted spots. A very similar sword is shown in W. Fischer. M.A. Zirngibl African Weapons p.18 fig. 11, with scabbard. A real find for the collector at a very reasonable price.
