'Flyssa' - the Traditional Sword of the Kabyles, Morocco - 0325
A Flyssa, the traditional sword of the ‘Kabyles’ people of Morocco. These type of swords come with blades of various sizes from 12 up to 38 inches. This one is one of the longest I have seen, 38 ½ inch long, almost ½ inch thick at the blade base and very heavy. The blade is inlaid with brass decoration, the hilt is a combination of steel and engraved brass in a styled animal head and the scabbard is wood carved in a typical design.
