This short sword from Somalia is a development of the Somali Billao dagger and was used mainly by the coastal people of Somalia. It has a long non-symmetrical well forged leaf shape blade, 13 ½ inches long. The handle is made of sections of dark horn separated by section of light colored metal. The pommel is of a typical three pronged shape. Hide scabbard and carrying belt. Very good condition few blackened spots on the blade. Early – mid 20C. authentic and unusual item from East Africa, complete as originally made.
