Very Good Quality Parang Nabur Sword - 12736


Up for sale is this classical example of the Parang Nabur sword from Kalimantan (Borneo). This saber shaped sword with the D guard is strongly influenced from the naval cutlasses carried by the Dutch sailors, and shows a perfect blend of European with Islamic styles. Up-curving heavy blade 24 1/2 inches long, widening to its maximum width near the tip is engraved with floral design and has the Baduh (Magic square) at the base. The tip is finely filed and pierced. The handle is engraved horn and the D guard is brass. Total length 30 inches. Very good condition. No scabbard. A classical example, of very fine quality. late 19 C.
