Very Good Heavy and Long Flyssa Sword, Morocco - 6251
We offer for sell this Flyssa, the traditional sword of the Kabyles people of Morocco. These type of swords come with blades of various sizes from 12 up to 38 inches. This one is rather long and heavy 39 inch long, with a 33 inches massive blade almost ½ inch thick at its base. It is single edge widening to its maximum about 11 inches from the tip. The blade is heavily inlaid with brass decoration. The hilt is a combination of steel and wood covered with engraved brass in a styled animal head. The scabbard is wood, carved in a classical local style and bound with iron bands. Good condition. Few very minor pitted spots. The top of the scabbard is slightly damaged and the top iron band is missing. This is a real and very impressive fighting weapon, quite rare at these dimensions and with the original scabbard. Probably from the early 19 Century. |
