Very Fine Balkan / Albanian Jambiya Dagger with Wootz Blade Dated 1907 - 12135
Up for sale this very fine Ottoman / Balkan (probably Albanian) big size Jambiya dagger, with 10 ½ inches blade forged from fine wootz (Damascus, watered steel). Long handle cut entirely from a single piece of walrus ivory with extended pommel and cross guard corners (attributed to Albania). The pommel side is set with silver filigree and set with Turquoise stones (one cracked). Wood scabbard covered with tooled leather and mounted with silver locket and chape. The locket is engraved with Arabic letters and dated to 1907. Total length 18 inches (in scabbard). Very good condition. The back side of the locket is lightly damaged and the belt loop is missing. This type of daggers rarely employ wootz blade. Blades will usually be of plain steel or sometimes sham steel. Rare and impressive item. |
