Early 19 C. Ankus (Elephant Goad) India - 6221

This is an Indian ANKUS, (Elephant Goad), used by the Indian to guide their elephants. Although it is not a pure weapon, it is always shown in Museum and private collection in connection to Indian arms and armor. It also finds extended use as a ceremonial item displayed in parades and other important events. This one has a 6 ½ inches steel blade, pierced along all edges (very unusual) and brass haft with a brass chain. Total length 17 inches. Very good condition. The blade is slightly loosed. This item is an original unusual piece, dated probably to the first half of the 19th C. and a very interesting addition to any Indian art / or edged weapon collection.
