Very Good Kattara Sword with European (?) Blade, Oman - 12010

Sword from Oman also known as Kattara. This type of sword, which is very similar to the older Islamic swords from the 11th 12th centuries, was popular in the Gulf countries during the 18th and the 19th Centuries. It has a 27 ½ inches long, straight and double edge blade, thin and very flexible with a central shallow fuller on its entire length, and a spatula shaped tip. Although it is not marked, the style of the blade, the quality of the steel and the forging suggest a European origin. Hilt is wood, bound with leather strips and embroidered with silver wires. The pommel is a heavy square steel piece used as a counter weight to the well balanced long blade. Total length is 35 inches. Very good condition. Losses and repairs to the silver binding of the handle. No scabbard.
