Very Good Very Long, Large Size Wootz Karud Dagger - 11907


This Karud dagger is the straight back member of the family of the Pesh-Kabz, Choora and Khyber Knife. The whole family of such daggers is common to India, Persia and several Central Asian countries. This large exemplar is most probably of Afghan origin, mid – late 19C. The blade is forged from beautiful wootz (Damascus, watered ) steel, 15 inches long, almost 5/8 inches (15 mm) wide, with a pronounced T spine tapering to an acute tip. The grips are made from ribbed slabs hardwood. The bolsters and gri starp are steel. Wood scabbard with steel locket and chape and (later) velvet cover. Total length 23 inches (compared to 16-17 inches long of more common ones). Very good condition. Minor pitted spot on the blade. Lightly dented chape. Very Impressive long dagger.
