Fine Persian Khangar Dagger with Wootz Blade - 11896


This Khanjar dagger is Persian, mid 19C. mid Qajar period. Classical curved and double edge blade with central rib and reinforced edges. The blade is forged from fine wootz (Damascus, watered) steel of high contrast pattern. Bone handle very elaborately carved in a classical Qajar style with a king image on one side and a queen on the other face. The pommel and cross guard are carved with inscriptions in Arabic letters. Original leather covered scabbard. Blade 8 ½ inches total 15 ½ inches. Very good condition. Minor scratches on the blade. Age cracks on the bone handle but hold very solid. Pommel bone plate is a later replacement. Light damage to the scabbard tip.
