Very Good Turkish Kilij / Pala Sword - 11557
This sword is known as Pala or Kilij. It is Turkish, early 19C. with a very good deeply curved blade 28 ½ inches long, with raised 11 inches back edge. It is forged from fine pattern welded steel in a pattern known as Turkish Ribbon, composed from 8 layers of twisted steel rods. This pattern was common to fine Turkish blades from the 17 C. and on. The blade is decorated with gold koftgari work. Black horn grips, Brass grip strap cross guard. Total length 30 1/2 inches. Very good condition. No scabbard. Some losses to the gold in;ay work. A fine rare sword, very much sought after by collectors. |
