Fine and Rare Visayan (?) Bolo Sword. - 11498


Probably of Visayan origin from the Philippines, this fine sword has a heavy, beveled edge, 20 inches blade. Finely carved hardwood handle and cross guard covered with silver. The pommel is shaped like a monster head with very long nose. Carved wood scabbard bound with rattan strips. Total length 29 inches. Very good condition. Several rattan bands are missing. This swords comes with an old label inscribed: SWORD BROUGHT FROM JAVA BY PAUL A. SORG 1890. PRESENTED TO KEN W. KELLER BY FRED V. GUMMISKEY 1950. Very impressive sword.
