Rare Sword - Bagobo, Philippines - 11492
Up for sale is this very interesting sword of the Bagobo tribe from Mindanao, Philippines. The blade is wavy. May be a secondary use of a Moro Kris sword 21 inches long. The hilt and cross guard are cast brass in a typical Bagobo style and shape of octagonal cross sectionwith a flaring butt shaped pommel, also of octagonal cross section. The scabbard is wood, ends with four tubular cast brass "prongs". The upper part of the scabbard is bound with thick band of tortoise shell and covered with fabric and the lower parts of the scabbard is decorated with thick panels of tortoise shell. Total length 29 inches. Very good condition. Rare and authentic piece from the late 19 or early 20 C. |
