Very Fine Kard Dagger with Silver Scabbard - 11448

This very fine Kard Dagger is Persian in origin, late 18 or early 19 C. The wootz (Watered, Damascus) steel blade is thick, 8 inches long and finely decorated with gold inlay work. The bolster as well as the grip strap are steel with gold and silver inlay decoration. The grips are walrus. A later, late 19 C and very fine whole silver scabbard was designed to accommodate this fine dagger. The scabbard is done in the style common to the Caucasus and central Asia, richly decorated with chased and nielloed silver. Total length 15 ½ inches. Very good condition. The adaptation of fine Persian blades into silver scabbards in the Caucasian and/or Central Asian style was quite common in Turkmenistan and other Central Asian countries in the late 19 C
