Hand Painted Hide Shield, Rajhastan, India - 6147

A beautiful and rare hand painted Indian shield from Rajhastan, made from Buffalo hide. The diameter is 23”, height about 3”. The Rajhastani hide shields were very famous in their delicate paintings in black red and gold as is with this one on both the outer and inner faces. The hand cushion at the internal side are covered with the original red fabric. This shield is original from the late 18th Century retaining the original design and original painting. Very good condition considering its age. Age cracks to the paint and few very small areas of missing paint. It is a piece of artwork, not only a weapon, a prize for the collector of Indian weapons / art. |
