Wootz Karud Dagger from India - 6094

This superb dagger is a rare style of something between a Karud , the straight back member of the family of the Pesh-Kabz, and a Khybar Knife. The whole family of such daggers is common to India, Persia and several Central Asian countries. The blade is of forged Indian wootz (crystalline), 12 inches long, heavy, with a pronounced T spine tapering to an acute tip. The grips are of elephant ivory, the grip strap and bolsters are steel with delicate koftgari gold decoration. Wood scabbard with red velvet cover and steel tip. Very good condition. Excellent blade shape and very good age patina to the grips. Considerable part of the gold koftgari on the grip strap is already erased. The steel tip of the scabbard is slightly damaged. It is a later addition and probably comong from another Central Asian dagger. Good investment in a rare item for the advanced collector of Asian blades. |
