This Jambiya dagger of the Kurdish people is a fine and high quality exemplar. East Turkey, early – mid 19C. Double edged curved blade with a central rib 9 1/2 inches long, forged from high contrast Wootz (Watered, Damascus) steel. I shaped black horn grip with dom shaped filigree silver cups. Wood scabbard covered with finely tooled leather with a ball shaped horn tip. Total length 16 1/2 inches. Very good condition. Age crack on the horn grip but hold very solid. Minor bugs bites on the horn grip. The triangular shape of different color of the steel on the top of the blade is common to similar daggers and it is probably a result of heat treatment. |
