This very fine sword is Indian, probably central India, late 18 – early 19 C. The very curved blade is most probably Persian made, forged from good Wootz (Watered, Damascus) steel, 32 inches long. The grips are walrus ivory and the cross guard as well as the grip strap are silver, very finely enameled in green red and blue floral pattern. The scabbard is covered with blue velvet and mounted with silver belt ring attachment and chape, also finely enameled en-suite with the handle. Total length 37 ½ inches. Very good condition. Lightly blackened blade. The tip of the chape is damaged at the end. The velvet trim thread is later. |
