Whole Steel 19 C. Indian ANKUS with Concealed Blade - 11015
An Indian ANKUS, (Elephant Goad), used by the Indian to guide their elephants. This one is not only a tool but includes in its handle a concealed sharp blade to be used as a weapon. It also finds extended use as a ceremonial item displayed in parades and other important events. It is made entirely of steel, 19 inches long with hollow haft which hide the 9 inches blade. The blade handle is brass. This item is richly decorated koftgari work. Very good condition. Authentic item dated probably to the second half of the 19th C.
