Palestinian / Jordanian Bedouin Dagger Shibriya Dated 1942 - 10941
A typical good example of the Bedouin side dagger locally known as Shibriya. All men carry it and it is very popular between the Bedouin tribes residing in Israel and in Jordan. The blade is 7 1/2 inches, re-curving and double edged with an acute tip, engraved with a bird, Arabic inscription and dated in both the Islamic and the Gregorian calendar to 1361 = 1942. The grip as well as the scabbard are covered with chased white metal showing flowers and faces and set with colored stones. The scabbard is set with a belt loop at the rear side. Total length 12 inches. Good condition. Blade slightly pitted with edge nicks. Grip and scabbard cover dented. The scabbard rear iron cover is partially corroded. |
