This very fine sword is a Turkish Shamshir, mid 19 C. Very good Wootz (Damascus, watered) steel blade of good contrast. Rhino horn grips with chased silver grip strap and fine silver cross guard. Scabbard covered with original leather, with spiral stitching, mounted with heavy silver locket and chape, very finely chased. Silver parts are proof marked (also the silver belt rings). Total length 40 inches. Very good condition. Age cracks on the grips. Handle very slightly loose. Very minor losses to the leather. A very fine, complete and impressive sword.
