Fine Persian Khanjar / Jambiya Dagger for the Turkish Court - 10867

This fine dagger is of Persian origin, early 19 C. Classical curved blade 9 inches long with a central rib. Forged from wootz (Damascus, watered) steel of rather low contrast. Bone handle finely carved with human figures. Silver scabbard with black niello decoration. Total length 14 ½ inches. Very good condition. Blackened spots on the blade. Old solder repair on the scabbard tip. The general shape and dimensions as well as the handle are very typical Persian Qajar, however the scabbard shape with the side belt rings, the scabbard tip and the niello decoration are of Turkish style, suggesting that this dagger was made in Persia for the Turkish court.
