The swords and daggers of the Baule tribe were very rare and sought after by collectors of African weapon / tribal arts. The Baule people reside in Ivory Coast and Neighboring Ghana and known to be masters of wood work and brass casting. We offer here for sale a rare short sword of the Baule. The blade is slightly curved with a squared tip and finely fullered, 16 1/2 inches long. The handle is cast brass. The scabbard is wood, covered with hide and set with red dyed shell. Shells were added only to weapons of highly prestigious owners. Total length 22 inches. Very good condition. Age patinated blade. The leather cover of the scabbrd may be a later addition.
