Very Long Knife from Bosnia Herzegovina - 10791

An unusual long knife from Bosnia & Herzegovina, from the very short period of independence before the annexation to the Austro-Hungarian Empire at the end of the 19th C. The blade is straight, single edge, 14 inches long (compared to 7-9 inches long of the more common ones) and marked with a maker mark in the shape of a small saber. The grips are bone with flared pommel, set with brass nails and inserts in a typical Balkan style of decoration. The scabbard is wood covered with thin chased brass. Total length 19 inches. Very good condition. To demonstrate the unusual length it is shown below next to a similar regular knife with 8 inches blade.
