This very rare shield is made from the hide of a rhinoceros, India, 19C. most probably from Rajhastan. It is very strong and supposedly can stop a small caliber bullet. 13 ½ inches diameter, very finely chiseled with dense floral design and painted with red white green and gold colors on the perimeter and the central medallion. Four high and engraved brass bosses. Original hand cushion and handles on the back side. It is shown below photographed against light source to show its transparency (Typical to rhino hide). Very good plus condition. Very light age distortion. One handle torn.
