Very Fine Persian Shamshir Sword with Wootz Blade - 10723
This is a classical Persian Shamshir sword, dated to 1217 (1802 in the Gregorian calendar). Very fine curved blade of plain wedge cross section, forged from good high contrast wootz (Damascus, watered) steel with maker mark and date medallion and a Baduh (Magic square) of four figures in true gold inla. Steel cross guard very finely chiseled with hunting scenes. Whale bone grips with steel grip strap and pommel cap. Wood scabbard with black leather cover and steel belt rings and tip with gold inlay decoration. Blade 31 1/2 inches. Total 36 inches. Very good condition. |
